Adding Emoticons to your post

This forum has a selection of Emoticons {green}:cool: you can add to your post if you should wish to do. To add an Emoticon {blackemo}:carnival: click the smiley face at the bottom right-hand corner of the text area when you are writing your post.

You may attach images post video links in the forums. Your initial posts will be held for moderation to help prevent spam and other unwanted bugs. Your attachments will be scanned for viruses {green}:rabid: too.

If you want to post text and a video link them write the text first then leave a line space or two by pressing the enter key o your PC/Laptop keyboard then paste the video link. Once you post your forum contribution the video will appear. {blackemo}:party:

How to change your password

{blue}:cool: Once logged in to your account here at Thatch Finder Forum, there are several ways to get to your profile and edit your account details. From any page on the site, you can always hover on your username in the top menu and click "My Profile". You will then see your profile, with tabs for viewing various parts of your profile. The Account tab will allow you to review and edit the information on your profile, including your password.

If you are already in the Community Forums, you can also get to the Account page by hovering over My Profile in the forum menu, then click on Edit Account Settings. That takes you directly to the Account page with a minimum of clicks.

Additionally, if you ever visit the site and can't remember your password, the login page has a link where you can reset your password. You will find this by clicking the login at the top of the site (centre) if you are using desktop. An email is sent to you to confirm that it's truly you requesting a new password, so it's important to check your spam folder if you don't receive the email within a minute or two.

Creating your Forum Profile and User Name

There are three different names for Members:

Username (Login) – Being used for forum authorization (login, sign-in) action
Display Name – The Display Name is what shows up next to a user’s posts, as well as on their Profile page.
Nicename – Unique name which is used in this forum to generate user Profile URL. In other words this is the user URL /path/. For example thatchfinder.com/community/profile/thatcher99/.

After a regular user registration process, Username, Display Name and Nicename are set the same. For example If you register a user with “Thatcher99” Username your user names look like this:

Username – Thatcher99
Display Name – Thatcher99
Nicename – thatcher99

And profile URL will be:

 thatchfinder.com/community/profile/thatcher99/

This is insecure, because profile URLs are public and hackers can see the thatcher99 part. Using this part (Nicename) they can detect the Username and try to login with different passwords. In this way they can also find Administrator username and your website will be under the risk.

In order to fix this security issue, this forum has “Display Name” and “Nicename” fields in Forum > My Profile > Account font-end page. Using this options you should change the Display Name and Nicename to something like this:

Username – Thatcher99
Display Name – Roof Thatcher
Nicename – thatcherman (this will become @thatcherman for tagging purposes)

This is a secure way to configure User Names.
