About us

The Thatch Lisselton is a family run business based in North Kerry on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Established in 1832, it is one of the few thatched bars remaining in Ireland. Four generations of the O Sullivan family operated the business up until June 2017 when John & Joanne O Connor and Elaine Riordan, Lisselton natives took it over. The old traditional style bar remains and features a welcoming open fire with an original pot and crane. A lounge and restaurant were added in 1993 whilst retaining the old traditional style.
The Country Kitchen at The Thatch is Open every Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 11.30am to 7.30pm. A full menu is severed each day.
The premises is located at the foot of Cnoc an Oir (The Hill of Gold) halfway between Listowel and Ballybunion (8 km each way), 16km from Tarbert car ferry and 50 km from Kerry Airport. It is ideally situated along the Wild Atlantic Way North Kerry route.
The Thatch Lisselton is ideally suited for tourists visiting Ballybunion Golf Club or the beach and is a major attraction for visitors to the Listowel Races. Traditional music is a regular feature especially with the local wren boys at Christmas time.
Located in the centre of North Kerry The Thatch Lisselton is the ideal venue for all parties and functions.

Thatched Roofs – The Pros and Cons

Before we get to the condensed version I would like to knock a misnomer over on its backside. The ‘Warm in Winter – Cool in Summer’ trope that is ingrained in the psyche of many regarding thatched cottages. It is as true as it is false. It all depends; like in many things in life there are variations.
