What we are looking for

Old photographs

Thatched houses, pubs, farms and churches, thatchers at work, ricks and reed beds.

Clippings and print

Newspaper and magazine cuttings, adverts, postcards, posters and old book plates.

Heritage crafts

Basket makers, smiths, weavers, beekeepers, wheelwrights and other country crafts.

Your family's story

A picture of a grandparent's cottage, a parish hall, a local thatcher. Tell us who, where and when.

The archive

With thanks to our contributors

Every image you share is credited to you here, with a link to your website or blog if you like. Thank you.

Our first images come from public domain books in the ThatchFinder Library. Tap one to see its source.

Share an old image

Have an old photo, clipping or postcard that shows thatch or a heritage craft? Send it in with the form below. Every image is checked by hand before it goes into the archive, and every image is credited with thanks. Tell us how you would like your name to appear and add your website or blog if you have one, and we will link to it.

How it works: 1. Scan or photograph the image as clearly as you can. 2. Tell us what you know about it: where, when and who. If there is a story behind it, there are a few gentle questions to help, all optional. 3. Confirm it is yours to share, out of copyright, or that you have permission. 4. We review it and, if it fits, add it to the archive with your credit.

Stories become flipbooks. The best stories may be turned into a short page-turning flipbook in the Library, with your photo, your words and your name, even if it is only two pages.

JPG, PNG or PDF, up to 10 MB. Please do not send images you found online unless you know they are out of copyright or you have the owner's permission. If you would rather post an original or send a large batch, email info@thatchfinder.com.

Tell us the story (all optional)

Old pictures often come with a story, and we would love to hear it. Every question here is optional, so answer as many or as few as you like. Even one line helps. The best stories may become a short flipbook in the Library, even if it is only two pages.
